# Team Roles and Permissions

Each user has a role in the workspace: **Member**, **Admin**, or **Owner**.

* **Member** — works on pattern projects using the workspace's available tools and references.
* **Admin** — manages all operational workspace settings, shared references and templates, reviews analytics, and manages Member/Admin roles where team management is available.
* **Owner** — has the same operational permissions as an Admin, plus ownership and billing responsibilities.

## Compare permissions

The table describes access by role. Feature availability also depends on the active subscription and, for project actions, the project's current state. **—** indicates access reserved for another role.

\* In a managed workspace, **Admins and Owners** can manage user roles from **Workspace Settings → Members**.

\*\* Billing management is available in self-service workspaces. Managed workspaces arrange billing separately.

Catalog management refers to the dedicated shared-reference pages. When working on a project, users can use the references and controls available to that project.

## Manage user roles

In a managed workspace, **Admins and Owners** can assign **Member** or **Admin** roles to users.

1. Open **Workspace Settings → Members**.
2. Find the user and choose **Member** or **Admin** from the role selector.

The change is saved immediately. The Owner role cannot be assigned or changed from this selector. Changing a user to Member removes their access to administrative settings.

The Members page is available to Admins and Owners of managed workspaces, where team access is arranged separately. It lets you review members and change Member/Admin roles; invitation and removal controls are not provided here.

## Leave a workspace

As a Member or Admin, open **Account Settings** and find **Joined Workspaces**. Choose the workspace you want to leave and follow the confirmation.

Leaving ends your access to that workspace. Clab switches to another available workspace or signs you out when you have no remaining workspace access.

For working alongside other users on a pattern, see [Work on a Shared Project](/manage-a-project/project-presence.md).
